Sip of Soup - May/June 2005

Positivity TM Power

Last week after my daylong life-balance seminar in Kentucky, a gracious and grateful woman took my hand. She was about my age (that's young!), yet she said her husband had just been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. As she faced this illness - where she will lose him twice - she looked at me with tears in her eyes and said, "We're lucky. We have a chance to say and do what we haven't said and done yet." Now I had tears. I had reinforced all day the importance of truly living our priorities, and this courageous woman showed me how.

With Mother's Day just past and Father's Day approaching, it's a great time to do what this wise nurse taught us - say and do what we haven't said and done yet. While many greeting cards eloquently express our thoughts in someone else's words, there is no substitute for our own. So make that phone call or pen that letter ( no emails or Word documents, please!) and tell the moms and dads in your life how you feel - and thank them. Our parents may not have done everything right, but they did their best based on who they were and what they knew then. I'm guessing some would like "do-overs" in some areas - wouldn't we all.

Lessons from LeAnn

Often in our busy world, miles and sometimes even memories, separate us from the people we love. Take time now to tell them - show them - how you feel.

My latest book Chicken Soup for the Father & Daughter Soul just hit the stands. It inspires dads and daughters to embrace these stories and each other, evoking their own memories and deepening their love - proving, none can liken that of a daddy and his "little girl." If you'd like a signed copy for your dad, or your children's dad, or for your daughter, then click the link below. On the first page of the book, I'll sign a personalized note, and there's a place for you to sign yours. Now that's living your priorities!

While you're on my web site you can read and share the Sample Story from Chicken Soup for the Father & Daughter Soul.
