Sip of Soup - September/October, 2004

Positivity TM Power
I laughed out loud when I read October has a “Cranky Co-worker Day” on the 27th. Yet I know, it’s no laughing matter. My mama used to say, “One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch.” That’s what a cranky coworker can do, isn’t it?

So what do we do about “bad apples” who “rot” the morale of our workplaces? First, it’s important to confront them, kindly, to address what you perceive as a negative attitude, then ask what they see as the cause. Sometimes there is a stress or pain in their lives that we are unaware of and perhaps we can offer help. Other times, people are simply into “stinkin’ thinkin,” for no apparent good reason! That’s when we are challenged to maintain our positive attitudes.

Past E-sips reminded us to incorporate positive thinking and visualization and humor into our daily lives to affect our health and happiness at home and in the workplace. For a review of those past E-sip tips click on the web link below.

Remember, we are always mentoring, whether we want to be or not. We need to help each other, build each other up, work together as a team, and help each other stay positive. That’s why we should never let the negative thinker orient new employees, because “ stinkin’ thinkin' ” can be contagious!

Lessons from LeAnn
We have the power — yes it is a power — to influence the attitude of our coworkers. Don’t let a “rotten” attitude “spoil” your workplace. Positive thinking is contagious too. Visualize — and create — a place where there are no “Cranky Co-worker Days.”

Soup for the Day; a healthy quote:
Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life.
